If you are updating though from a free version 1.5.6 or lower or a premium version 1.7.3 or lower your theme options will seem to disappear. It will look like you’ve lost all your customizations with the theme. This is only because the new options panel uses a different database to store your theme settings. You haven’t lost anything just need to transfer the settings over. Here are the steps to transfer your theme options
